The Pocono Mountains of Northeast Pennsylvania is home to some of the country’s most picturesque places. With its abundant lakes and river ways, together with its gorgeous mountaintops, complete with views to die for, the Poconos and its traditional four county region will take your breath away. The Traditional four counties of the Poconos are Carbon, Monroe, Pike and Wayne Counties. There are also overlapping counties such as Schuylkill, Luzerne and Lackawanna that capture the same natural beauty. Pictured below is Lake Hauto, one of the hidden gems of the Carbon / Schuylkill county regions.

Lakefront Housing

The Pocono Mountains offers its home owners, second home buyers, and vacation renters a lot of options. The most popular home setting of choice is the Lakefront Home. Lakefront housing in the Poconos has steadily been the most popular purchase of any home in the Pocono Mountains!

Bodies of water flow throughout the entire Mountain Region. The Lehigh River flows through amenity-filled communities such as Bear Creek Lake and Riverside Estates, The Delaware River flows through The Stroudsburg and Deleware Water Gap area, and there are so many lakes, streams, creeks, and even waterfalls in some areas!

Whether you are a fisherman, sailor, photographer, site-seer, or simply love to just sit by the water and breathe in the fresh air of earth’s natural habitat, there is a place by the lake just for you.

There are well over a dozen ‘Lake Communities’ on the mountain that have beautiful lakefront homes available. Simply step out your back door and fullfill your lake experience. Most communities allow boats, canoes, and fishing on the lakes. Also, swimming is available! Lakes in the perfect Pocono Mountain communities are on wonderful sandy beaches where you can take a dip in the lake! Arrowhead Lakes Community has 2 large lakes (260 & 90 Acre), 4 Beaches, and 3 Heated Swimming Pools!

Parks and Recreation
The Poconos in the summer is rich in greenery as there are massive tracts of private open land, PA gamelands as well as large State Forests. Hickory Run Forest State Park in Carbon County is one such destination. The almost 16,000 acre state park is located in the western foothills of the Poconos and consists of over 40 miles of hiking trails and miles of trout streams as well as the mind boggling Boulder Field, a huge field of boulders for as far as you can see.

A few of the more popular locations in Monroe County would probably consist of the Delaware Water Gap Recreation Area, Mount Airy Casino, The Inn at Pocono Manor, and two of the biggest private lakes in the area, Arrowhead and Lake Naomi! Monroe County is the central of the four counties and is made up of many private lake communities which house a large portion of both full time primary homeowners and a large consensus of second homeowners.

Heading north into Pike/ Wayne County you have to ask about Lake Wallenpaupack. Built in 1926 by the Pennsylvania Power and Light Company for hydroelectric purposes, Lake Wallenpaupack is located near the town of Hawley and sits on the borders of Pike and Wayne Counties

Lake Wallenpaupack is 13 miles long with 52 miles of shoreline and is about 60 feet at its maximum depth. This magnificent lake is the focal point of recreation for area communities with fishing, boating and swimming in the summer and ice fishing and ice skating in the winter. These are just a few of the activities enjoyed by area residents.

The Seasons

Seasonally all of the four seasons are majestic. Summer is rich in greenery and flowing waterways. Spring is a sort of rebirth on a much more massive scale as ice, pasted on mountainsides for the last few months begins to slowly thaw and creates a steady flow of the winter snow and ice back into the waterways that make up the Poconos.

Winter is probably the “In -Season” for the Pocono Lake area or as I like to call it the Jack Frost/ Big Boulder Ski Resort area of the Poconos! Snow can typically be found every day in the form of squalls and the area between the PA Turnpike exit 95 Pocono and Route 423 in the Pocono Pines is considered to be a Snow Belt area where snow can be expected almost every day at some point and in some fashion. If you love snow, you will love the Lake Harmony / Pocono Lake / Blakeslee area of the Poconos!

My personal favorite season however is probably the most colorful of all of the seasons. If you haven’t guessed already I am talking about the autumn season here in the Poconos! Anyone looking to relocate to this area of northeast PA or are simply looking for the peaceful getaway of a second home, the Poconos is just a 2 hour drive or less from New York, Philadelphia, New Jersey and Delaware.
