A conversation with Kristyn Grewell of CENTURY 21 Goodyear Green
Are you considering a move to Edmond, Oklahoma? After Forbes recently named Oklahoma City as The Most Affordable Place to Live, many people are giving us a second look. Let me tell you a bit about Edmond, Oklahoma. We started as a watering station on the Santa Fe railroad line, and then sprang into a town during the land run of 1889. We now have a population of about 83,500 people. Edmond is located about thirteen miles north of downtown Oklahoma City in the center of Oklahoma.

Work Life
Most of our residents commute to work in Oklahoma City and the surrounding areas (large employers include the State of Oklahoma, Tinker Air Force Base, INTEGRIS Health, Chesapeake Energy, and the FAA Aeronautical Center) but many also work in Edmond. The average household income is about $95,000 and the unemployment rate is just 3.8%. Our largest employers are Edmond Public Schools and the University of Central Oklahoma. We anticipate the creation of numerous jobs in the medical industry in the coming years. During 2010, 53 million dollars was invested in new medical development in Edmond. Currently, INTEGRIS Medical is constructing a new facility near Interstate 35 and 15th Street. Mercy Health System plans to break ground on a new facility complete with day surgery and a wellness center in the spring of 2011. And OU Medical Center Edmond is completing a renovation to bring obstetrics to Edmond.
The Kiddos
There is so much for kids to do in Edmond! Whether your kiddo is into; organized sports, scouts, music, drama, martial arts, vocal music, cooking, reading, dance, pom, gymnastics, stamp collecting, or video games there is a place for them to get plugged in. But if you’re like me, the area of number one concern is their education! Edmond’s award winning district, Edmond Public Schools has the highest academic performance rate of all Oklahoma 6A schools. The graduation rate is 94.4%. ACT scores are 11.4% above the national average and SAT scores are 15.3% higher. There are also several private schools and a network of home-school families. As your kids get older, Edmond has two university options; University of Central Oklahoma (in the top three Oklahoma universities) and Oklahoma Christian University.
Your Home
As you think about moving to Edmond, thoughts will naturally go toward a home. In Edmond, homes can be found in all sizes and prices in both rural and suburban locations. The average new home price is $284,276. Communities with walking trails, neighborhood pools, and clubhouses are common. Most neighborhoods have associations that require homeowners follow covenants and restrictions. I’d love to hear what you have in mind as you search for your next home. I am confident that we will be able to find what you are looking for in Edmond, Oklahoma.
