Fun Facts Friday
Chapstick was invented in the late 1800’s by a doctor in Virginia. He had taken a waxy substance and wrapped it in tin foil. Trying to sell this product was difficult and he wound up selling his recipe to John Morton for five bucks! Mr. Morton started manufacturing the small tubes of lip wax in his kitchen with his wife at the helm. Creating a very successful company, he sold the right to manufacture Chapstick in 1963 to A.H. Robbins Company.
Today, there are hundreds of different lip balm products with most containing the main ingredients of camphor, beeswax or lanolin. What most people don’t know is that the original formula for lip balm was ear wax!
