I’m embedding a video clip of an interview I did with Vicki Mabrey on ABC Nightline News (air date: August 17, 2010). Everybody wants to know why is it so hard to get a mortgage these days, even when rates are at their lowest ever.

As I say all the time, it is all about your credit score and the loan to value of the mortgage. That is just the baseline. Here we talk about debt, down payments and simply being prepared to start the process. Vicki also spoke to my clients, a young couple who just bought their first home. We really worked hard to get a great mortgage for them and they did. BUT, it took a lot of work and effort on their part and I am proud of them for going the extra mile.

I told them during the process that after we close they will forget about the pain…when watching them speak, I realized they did not forget what an emotional struggle it was. This made me even more sensitive to the needs of borrowers right now. The good thing is, they were giving the interview in their living room, so I think that felt pretty darn good- for all of us.
