David Meerman Scott opens the NASDAQ

Sometimes you just gotta have fun!

My friend, David Meerman Scott, is an author and well respected PR expert. His book, The New Rules of Marketing and PR (Wiley: November, 2008), remains the number one marketing/PR book sold on Amazon since it came out last year.  He recently launched a new book, World Wide Rave(Wiley: March, 2009), covering the new topic of social media. David shows us through actual stories and commentary how people and companies are able to create a global phenomena via the internet and social marketing. He speaks about FaceBook, Twitter, YouTube, blogging and other new (but here and now) marketing techniques and tools. David was using Twitter to open the NASDAQ yesterday, creating a worldwide rave about the opening bell using techniques in his new book. I think it worked, because millions of people Twittered about it, blogged about it and posted it on YouTube and FaceBook.

When David put out an email inviting people in his network to fill 30 spots next to him in the NASDAQ opening bell ceremony, I immediately Blackberryed him (from my car) and he replied from his place in cyberspace.  So, I got on the A list and off I went to Time Square early Monday Morning.

I must say, it was an exciting experience to do this. Something people do not really consider doing and perhaps is a once in a lifetime activity. Hats off to the production crew at NASDAQ for being friendly, professional and making it fun for all of us there. Truly an A class operation!

Mostly, congratulations to David. The event was seamless and a great success for him. David Meerman Scott is one of the nicest guys out there and I am happy to be associated with him. He is the kind of guy that you want to succeed and reach higher plateaus, and I believe he is on his way to greatness! Thank you for the opportunity to be plastered on a building in Time Square with you!
