: My Visit With The Detroit Shock

I had a crazy exhausting week starting Monday.Forgive me for just sitting down now, at 6AM on Sunday morning. I am off to Central Park to do 20 miles around the loop, but have to wait for my riding buddies to wake up first.Monday morning I hopped on a plane to Detroit.I was meeting with the Detroit Shock of the WNBA.

As told, I have been invited to do a real estate and mortgage finance seminar for all the WNBA teams. So far, I have done 7 of them and it has been great. On my early morning flight, there was what appeared [to the passengers] to be a terrorist on the plane. After the situation in London-Glasgow, you might say Americans are on edge again. Everybody was stressed and nervous, passengers, pilots and stewardess.I think even the guy sitting alone in the back of the plane acting as weird as I imagine a terrorist would behave looked nervous. However, after 2 hours of nail biting, we touched down in Detroit.Landing without incident, I was picked up by a driver and brought to The Palace of Auburn Hills. This is where the Shock and the Pistons both play.It is a beautiful venue about 45 minutes from the airport. The drive was lovely, through fields and suburbs, everything looked green and clean. It was an enjoyable ride for both me and my driver Fred.Fred listened with compassion about my terrorist on the plane experience and I felt much better after venting about the state of the world and of course because I was sitting in Fred’s car.Arriving at the stadium a little late, my team awaiting my arrival, we got started right away.Putting my personal experience aside, we spoke about buying a first home, a second home and investment property.I explained the different types of mortgage programs and what loans to avoid when financing your home. We spoke about the importance of good credit and paying your taxes. All said it was a lively one hour spent with the Shock. They went on with their day I went back to the airport. I was driven back to the airport by John Maxwell the Director of Media Relations. An interesting transplant from the metro area, he was very dedicated to the team and enjoyed living in the suburbs of Detroit.

Also, a very nice guy to drive me the 45 minutes back to airport in record time to catch my 3PM flight to Houston Detroit Airport, I had to run to catch my flight. This airport is huge and very poorly designed. Good thing my flight was delayed which gave me extra time to do the OJ sprint though the terminals. All in all, was it worth my frightening 2 hour flight and 4 ½ hour stopover in Detroit Yes!! Not only did I get to meet with the Detroit Shock, a great group of girls, but I was able to spread the word on the positives on real estate ownership and the pitfalls of mortgage finance. My motto is, if one person in my seminar learns one thing that can help them then it is worth my time tenfold. Off to Houston.
